Where will my bodywork session take place?
Your bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax or we can enjoy the silence together. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Must I be completely undressed?
Most of the bodywork I do involves being fully clothed. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in (no belts or jeans please).

What parts of my body will be worked on?
After assessing the areas in which you are holding tension or are experiencing pain or dysfunction, we will start near or on that body part. It is likely you will end up lying on your side, on your back and possibly on your belly during a session to integrate the work in different planes of movement.

What will the bodywork feel like?
We will work at a pace that will help calm your nervous system and relax muscular tension. As your body becomes relaxed, gentle movement and pressure maybe increased to further relax specific areas and improve muscular and skeletal function. Please communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Bodywork is most effective when your body and mind are not resisting.

Are there different kinds of bodywork?
There are numerous types bodywork and I have developed my own unique hand-on approach. Posture and movement re-education are at the heart of each treatment. When using Zero Balance techniques I will be palpating the bones, helping the foundational joints and surrounding tissues to release and function better. When using Cranialsacral Therapy, I will be working on the fluid body. When using Myofascial Release Therapy, I will be identifying stiff areas and trigger points and using compression to help those areas release. When using Feldenkrais or Yoga, I may be moving your body passively or may instruct you to actively move your body to improve mobility. Your bodywork session may include all or just one of these techniques; we will listen to the inherent treatment plan of your body.

What should I do during my bodywork session?
During the session, make yourself comfortable. I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people simply close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask, I love to explain the anatomy of what I am doing.

How will I feel after the bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. You will be encouraged to bring awareness to your posture and movement patterns in the week after your bodywork session. The day of your treatment please rest, drink water and enjoy an epsom salts bath; refrain from any rigorous exercise and manual labor.

What are the benefits of bodywork?
Bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, we communicate about your health. It is very important that you inform me of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval or a referral from your doctor may be required. If you have just had a traumatic injury, surgery, or car accident, massage is contraindicated but Cranialsacral Therapy is highly recommended.
